TAG Heuer has the habit of presenting new watches at Baselworld, the World Watch and Jewellery Show, which traditionally takes place in spring. During Baselworld 2003 Tag Heuer released the mechanical Monaco Sixty Nine watch combined with a 1/1000th of a second chronograph. The next year, TAG Heuer presented the TAG Heuer Monaco V4 concept-watch, featuring driving belts and ball-bearings instead of the conventional wheels and pinions.

This year, TAG Heuer launched new concept Monaco watch models to mark the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of Steve McQueen’s iconic watch. According to tradition, the watchmaking house unveiled new timepieces at Baselworld 2009. One of the launched watches is the revolutionary Monaco Twenty Four Concept Chronograph, inspired by the world’s oldest sports car race The 24 Hours of Le Mans. Paying tribute to the endurance race, the black-textured dial of the watch features an oversize “24″ at 12 o’clock position. Saturated blue and orange, the same colours Steve McQueen wore in the 1970 film, stand out against the black background.

Another released watch is the re-edited Monaco Chronograph Limited Edition, also created on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Monaco watch. The chronograph will be available in a number of 1000 pieces. The watch is inspired by the 1969 Monaco chronograph, worn by Steve McQueen in the film. It accommodates the same legendary Caliber 11 movement that ticked inside the original watch. The functional makeover of the chronograph included the substitution of the hesalite crystal with the scratch resistant sapphire one. In addition to the Monaco 1969 Original Re-Edition Chronograph watch and the Monaco Twenty Four Concept Chronograph, TAG Heuer has presented two more watch models – the Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition and The Monaco Watch Lady Grande Date watches.
